Creating Link Blogs

Important: to create link blogs, you must be a registered user.

A link-blog is a feed containing links to other articles or web-pages. It differs from a normal blog in that it consists mainly of links to other people's content, rather than being largely original content.

FeedGhost allows you to create and publish as many link blogs as you choose. As an example, I'm going to create a link blog about Windows Vista.

1. Create a Category

Link blogs are fed from articles tagged against a particular category. To add a category, either use the "Add..." button when tagging an article, or, as shown below, right-click on the "Tagged Articles" entry in the tree.

2. Create a Link Blog

By default, categories are private: only you can see their contents. To publish articles tagged under a category, you need to create a link blog for it. Use the "Sharing" button on the toolbar to launch the "Article Sharing" wizard.

If you already have any shared categories, the wizard will ask whether you want to share or stop sharing articles. If you don't have any shared categories, the wizard will skip that question and move straight onto

To create a link blog, choose a category from the list, andd click "Next >".

Choose a title and description for your blog, and click "Next >".

3. Let People Know About Your Link Blog

Of course, a link blog is of no use unless anyone reads it. After you click "Next" you can click "Details" to display a summary web-page containing details about the link-blog's web-page and RSS feed, or "View" to quickly display the link-blog's web-page. Both of these web-pages can be used by other people to view or subscribe to your new link-blog.

Link blog details

As well as a web-page and RSS feed, you can also display your link-blog as a web-gadget if you have your own website. From the link blog details page (or from your user area), follow the link at the bottom. Simply set the style of your gadget, then copy and paste the HTML code into your website. For more information on this feature, including how to match the style of the gadget to your website, please read the PDF document provided on that page.

Actually, a link blog can be of use even if no-one else reads it. If you use (say) a PC at work and a Mac at home, you could use FeedGhost at work to tag articles for later reading, publish them on a link-blog, and then read them at home via a web-browser.
