Managing Subscriptions

Folders

When adding subscriptions, you can choose a folder to place them in. Folders are handy for organisation when you have dozens or hundreds of subscriptions. FeedGhost displays the folder hierarchy for each article in the article browser, giving you a reminder of what each subscription is about.

You can add new folders by right-clicking in the tree and selecting "Add Folder". Subscriptions and folders can be re-arranged by dragging them around.

Editing Subscriptions

To edit an individual subscription, right-click it and choose "Edit".

"Details" Tab

Edit Subscription, Details tab

You can change the title, description and web address for a subscription, but note that you can't change the feed address - instead you have to add a new subscription and delete the old one.

"Behaviour" Tab

Edit Subscription, Behaviour tab

By default, feeds are synchronized. You can choose not to synchronize certain feeds, for example if you use FeedGhost at work and at home, you could choose not to synchronize intranet feeds.

You can change how often FeedGhost scans for new items - however some web sites will block you if you set this too low. We advise you to set it below four hours only for intranet feeds.

Most articles can be displayed in two ways: either displaying the article description as usual, or by following the article address to the web-page. FeedGhost will try to auto-detect this, but if it isn't as you expect, you can force either of these settings here.

"Filter" Tab

Edit Subscription, Behaviour tab

FeedGhost allows you to filter feeds so that only articles of interest appear to you, or so that articles of no interest are removed. For more information on filtering, see the help topic "Filtering Feeds".

"Authentication" Tab

Edit Subscription, Authentication tab

If a feed requires authentication, you can enter a username and password here. Usually however, these details will have been supplied on the "Add Subscription" tab.

Deleting Subscriptions

If you delete a subscription or folder, FeedGhost will move it to the "Deleted Subscriptions" folder at the bottom of the tree. If you later decide you want the subscription back, you can right-click it and choose "Restore". Alternatively, if you decide you really don't want the deleted item, right-click and choose "Permanently Delete".

FeedGhost keeps an undo/redo stack for many management operations; if you accidentally delete a subascription, just click "Undo" on the toolbar and the subscription will be restored. This facility applies to many other operations, such as moving tree items and deleting news articles.
